CNC oil cooling system
In order to machine aluminium or even steel, I'd need to significantly up my game on my small router. At first my concept was to keep things simple and cheap: I'd use a home aquarium pump (from ebay), with variable debit to create an oil cooling system on the machine. The next part was to make an coolant (oil) collector. The collector was made off two planks of pressed wood glued together and engraved to have a converging profile, a bit like a sink really.

Gluing the two planks of wood together...

Smoothening the surface down with polymer filler...

2 layers of oil based primer... (x2 for each side)

3 layers of oil based glossy blue paint and 2 layers of oil based boat lacquer later (x2 for each side), I managed to get close to a mirror finish. This was extremely tedious work as imperfections showed very easily even with the extreme care.
The two photos below show the paintjob dry, it's oddly rewarding being able to see your own reflection in your paintjob.
